Just 80 kilometers north of the International Airport at San Jose de Los Cabos you find a nondescript monument marking the Tropic of Cancer.

The Tropic of Cancer, or Northern tropic, is one of the five major circles of latitude that mark maps of the Earth. It is the most northerly latitude at which the sun can appear directly overhead at noon. This event occurs at the June solstice, when the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun to its maximum extent.

The Tropic of Cancer currently lies 23° 26′ 22″ north of the Equator. North of this latitude are the subtropics and Northern Temperate Zone. The equivalent line of latitude south of the equator is called the Tropic of Capricorn, and the region between the two, centered on the Equator, is known as the Tropics.

Traveling to Kilometer 100 or so you are at a town in Baja California called Los Barriles.

 
Today we drove into the town and took some photographs which we share with your with our comments.

The lifestyle in Los Barriles is "laid back" to say the least.  Just the same lots on the water will cost you $750,000 dollars to one million and much more.  There are not many of them. Across the highway at a distance of 500 meters to 1+ kilometers you can find lots for upward of $50,000. The size: 15 to 30 meters by 30 to 60 meters. We will take you from your hotel in La Paz or San Jose del Cabo and spend a day looking over the opportunities. The cost will be $175 and we furnish the transportation and lunch for two.
